On 29th of November Hvetjandi NGO, the Icelandic expert partner of Project LIKE-Life Investment is the Key to employment, organized a seminar on the topic of Working opportunities for young people with mental disabilities.
The seminar was in a hybrid format – it was made possible for live attendance as well as online. 26 participants took part in the event.
The event started with an introduction of the agenda and the project LIKE, made by Throvald Finnbjörnsson, head of Hvetjandi. Hlynur Jónasson from Hugvellir talked about the working opportunities for young people with mental problems and his good successful practices on dealing with this issue sharing that by giving the target group a role was one of the best treatment options they could get. Sara Dögg Svanhildardóttir, who works for the Iceland´s National Association of People with intellectual disabilities, talked on the topic of coordination of study and employment opportunities. Björn Finnbogason, Directorate of labor in Iceland, talked about increasing the capacity of jobseekers with reduced working capacity. Anna María Pétursdóttir and Alma Dóra Ríkarðsdóttir, company creators, shared their experience as entrepreneurs.
